Fitter, healthier, happier families

MEND (Mind, Exercise, Nutrition...Do it!) is an organisation dedicated to reducing global childhood and family overweight and obesity levels.

We are a social enterprise, working with local, regional, national and international partners to achieve our shared vision of fitter, healthier and happier families.

Together with our partners, we offer free local healthy living programmes to families. The MEND Programme for 7-13 year olds who are above a healthy weight and the MEND Programme for 5-7s, which both involve parents or carers and the Mini-MEND Programme for 2-4 year olds and their families, whatever their weight. We also offer training courses for people who come into contact with overweight children in order that they can provide the best possible support.

Our highly successful MEND Programme was devised at the world renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and the University College London Institute of Child Health. Thanks to support from our partners from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, families are now taking part in more than 300 programmes across the UK every term. We are now taking our work to other countries, including Australia, Denmark and the United States.

Of course, you'll want to know to know more and how we may be able to help. Whether you're a parent or child, a potential partner (funding or delivery), or a health professional.

Our approach

At MEND we take positive, practical action to reduce childhood overweight and obesity levels. To achieve our vision, we work in close partnership with other organisations who have similar objectives.

Our specialist teams of dieticians, nutritionists, exercise professionals and psychologists design programmes, services and resources to help children of different ages. We also run obesity management training for frontline staff and are preparing school resources and large-scale obesity prevention campaigns.

We train, equip and support local teams employed by local organisations to deliver our world-class programmes to groups of families in their own communities.

We track the progress of each child and the success of each programme using a secure online system. We analyse this database to make continuous improvements and help develop new services.

Everything we offer is evidence-based and highly effective.

TINY TUMS Workshops

Just like adults, young children need energy (calories) from food and nutrients such as protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals, to make sure their bodies work properly and can repair themselves.

Although toddlers can eat the same food as adults, before they're two years old children can't eat large amounts of food at one sitting. So, until then, give your child meals and snacks packed with calories and nutrients (nutrient dense foods)

  • Tips for your toddler
  • What should I give them?
  • How a toddler's diet is different
  • What to avoid
